Who am I and Why Should You Listen to Me?
Now, let me tell you why I'm ideal to help you break free when you’ve always failed before.
I'm Connie Bennett, and on April 15, 1998, I very reluctantly kicked sugar and refined carbs on doctor's orders.
Initially, I did NOT want to give up my beloved candies, red licorice and chocolate chips.What's more, I did NOT even know if I could quit my cherished sweets! (Sound familiar?)
Back in 1998, I was very much like you, as my coaching clients often reveal to me. Like you, I was caught up in sugar desperation, frustration and aggravation. Let me paint a portrait of my plight when I was at the height of my sugar obsession and addiction.
In all, I suffered from a whopping 44 confusing ailments, from mood swings to severe PMS to heart palpitations.
Worse still, my boyfriend at the time dumped me because he'd had enough of my irrational, erratic, moody, crybaby, unfocused, seemingly unbalanced, "Sugar Shrew" behavior. (See how I suffered for you! LOL!)
As coaching clients often share with me, much of this will ring true with you, too.
Even more embarrassing, I'd do strange things to get my sugar "fix." For instance, on a typical day, I’d:
- Drive across town to buy my favorite, low-calorie hard candies. (Who was I fooling? They were loaded with sugar and/or high fructose corn syrup.)
- Sit in a supermarket parking lot and wolf down half a dozen or a dozen sticks of red licorice before seeing my boyfriend Mark for the evening. (At the time, I didn't realize that's why we argued afterward. Sound familiar?)
- Travel to a special, gourmet shop known for chocolate to buy these candies to get “energy,” “soothe” my stress,” or “lift” my spirits. (Do you do that, too?)
Looking At Me, You Wouldn't Have Known That I Was Hooked on Sugar.
That's because my weight was normal (other than 5 to 7 pounds I wanted to lose), but I was trapped in a vicious cycle of sugar highs and lows. What’s more, while watching my calorie intake, I neglected to get ample quality, nutritious fare. Junk food ruled me! (I'm sure I ate much as you now are, as people like you have told me.)
At my lowest point, a friend urged me to get help. So I wearily dragged my baffled, befuddled self to yet another physician, one of many I'd seen over the years.
My new M.D. quickly discovered my sugar addiction and hypoglycemia (low blood sugar). Next, he prescribed “the impossible"!
"Connie, kick sugar and refined carbs," my doctor ordered me. "If you do, I predict that your life will change dramatically."
Frankly, I didn't want to listen, but I really had no choice. I’d already hit rock bottom, and I had nothing to lose (other than feeling life a lifeless, energy-sapped slug). So I decided to follow my M.D.'s advice.
What came next was one of the most lonely, frustrating, but ultimately exhilarating periods of my life! Have you tried to kick sugar and refined carbs all by yourself? I imagine you have and that's why you're here.
